Are you or is someone you know moving soon and in need of some good moving tips?
Moving into a new place is full of excitement; it’s a time for wonderful new beginnings. It can also be overwhelming and full of stress. Especially when you think about all the stuff you have and everything you have to do to plan the move. Whether you’re moving across town or across the country, there are certain things you can do to alleviate some of the stress and make things a little bit easier for you. Today, I’m sharing a few simple moving tips on what you can do before you even start packing. They will help you get organized from the onset and keep you on track so you’re ready for boxing things up and getting them out the door.
1 KEEP ALL MOVING INFORMATION TOGETHER. With all the activity surrounding a move, it’s easier to keep track of everything if it’s all in one place. By organizing at the onset, it will help ease a little of the anxiety as the move progresses.
2 MAKE A LIST. If you want to remember something, write it down. Make a to-do list, write down information and keep track of important numbers.
3 MAKE A VISUAL RECORDING OF YOUR VALUABLES. Take pictures of valuable items, so that you’ll have a record of them. If possible, videotape each room of your home before things are packed and use the photos for additional close-ups and records. Store a copy of these recordings in a safe deposit box or with a trusted friend/family member. Keep another in your possession. Don’t pack your copy; carry it with you.
4 DON’T PACK ITEMS YOU WON’T BE KEEPING. The time to get rid of things is before you move. This saves you time, energy, space and money. Declutter your home before you start packing. Toss, donate, or giveaway anything you don’t want to take to your new home.
5 HAVE RUGS AND DRAPERIES CLEANED BEFORE YOU MOVE. Any rugs or draperies that you plan on taking with you when you move should be professionally cleaned before the move. After you pick them up, don’t take them out of the protective wrapping. They’ll be packaged for the move and clean for your new place.
6 DON’T REFINISH FURNITURE BEFORE THE MOVE. Certain products can leave the wood soft and more susceptible to damage. Any scratches sustained during the move can be repaired when you have the piece refinished.
7 ARRANGE IN ADVANCE FOR A STORAGE FACILITY. If you find that you need temporary storage before moving day, make a list of all items you place in storage including box numbers and contents. Appliances, draperies and rugs should be clean and dry before being stored. Don’t store items to which you will need to have regular access.
