Many people find choosing paint color to be the most difficult task of their design project. There are myriad colors to choose from, so it can be overwhelming. That is why decorators and designers often have a special list of “go-to” colors. Colors they love and can always count on to look fabulous. If you’re not sure what color to choose, this is a great place to start. I love checking out what colors other designers have on their lists! I often refer to them when I’m looking for the perfect color for a project.
When I was writing for my first blog, The Decorating Files, I attended the HGTV presentations at the EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival. It was something they use to do every year at the festival, but unfortunately HGTV stopped giving those presentations a couple of years ago. What does this have to do with choosing paint color? Well…Sabrina Soto, lifestyle expert and one of my favorite designers from HGTV, gave a fabulous presentation one year at the festival. One of the things she shared with everyone was a list of six of her favorite neutral paint colors. At the time I put together a chart of Sabrina’s favorite colors and shared it on The Decorating Files; I see it pop up on Pinterest every now and again. She’s added more colors and manufacturers to her list since then, so I thought it was time for me to make an updated chart for you.
Choosing Paint Color
The graphic is a bit on the long side, but I wanted to make sure I got all her color choices in. I also corrected a typo that was in the original graphic and made it easier to read the names on the darker colors. 🙂
Keep in mind that these colors may render slightly different on different monitors, so I suggest stopping by your local paint store to check out the color chips and buy some samples. Before making a final decision, it’s always a good idea to put some paint up in the room to see how it looks at different times of the day.
